took the new 421 iron block to the track, but the damn thing will not shift, missed 2nd, third fourth you name it. hell i think even reverse once. if i granny shift it okay, and up to around 4ooo rpms or so, okay, but when i tray to go 6000 to 6500, its likie the lottery, slim chance in hell. i just put a ripper thinking it would help but still no go. have new z06 slave and mastre, spec stage 3 with lightweight alum flywhel, etc. any sugg? does the tranny need to be beefed up. car has 20k miles on it, b uit driveline is all new. ran a granny shifting 11.90 with traction control accidentally on, 1.9 60', and 122 mph shifting at 6000. this was with the stock 3.42 and throttle body and no dyno tuning yet, so there should be more et, mph and grins left. thankls for any insight , joe
It doesn't seem likely that the syncros for all your gears went bad but I guess that's possible. Perhaps the shift linkage is out of adjustment. It could be that your clutch isn't fully disengaging possibly because of air in the hydraulic system.
I am having the same problem at the track,if I granny shift it has no problem but run it to 6000 RPM and it won't go into 3rd.I've done the fluid change and it's no different.I'm beginning to think that the clutch is getting hot and not disengaging. My car is bone stock and I can't figure it out either. :cry
Your symptoms lead me to believe that your clutch is not disengaging quickly and/or enough. I would do a check of the enitre clutch system. How does the pedal feel? Is it bled properly? Do you have an aftermarket adj. master cylinder?
Where is the clutch pedal? Up top? On the floor? Can you depress the clutch?
Can you move the shifter at high RPM? Does the shifter just 'kick out' to neutral?
My experience has been that the McCleod master cylinder is the best out there ( I have not tried the Cartek). Make sure you have the line drilled out no the ends. I have also not had any luck with SPEC clutches. I know some people that swear by them, but they do say you have to get them really, really hot several times before they start to work well. I don't know about that.
I am pushing 470 NA and run a heavy-duty McCleod single disk. I can run 1.8 60's all day with a moderately aggressive launch.
Without the McCleod setup, when my stock setup when hot would never get into gear. It was impossible to even push the clutch in. Of course most people experience the stock clutch pedal going dead with too much power.
the peddel feels real good as a matter of fact, and run after run, the clutch never slipped once, it was holding fine. could bleeding be the culprit here? am wantinhg to get the damn thing fixed so i can see just whaqt it will run. joe
Re-bleeding the system is the only option you have for now. If that doesn't fix it then get a McLeod or AP adj master cylinder so you can get the clutch to function correctly.
I just re-read your mods. I couldn't get the stock master to hold with 390-400rwhp. I don't know what your 421 is putting down, but you will have to get a better master cylinder. Once I did, no problems. I don't know of anyone running a stock MC with a big cube motor. I am very happy with my McCleod. Good luck. Let us know how quick/fast you get when this bug is resolved.
