Default Raybestos QS Pads

Hi all,

I just installed some Raybestos Quiet Stop / Low Dust pads on my '02 vert with 20K miles. The old pads were still in good condition, but boy do they dust a lot!

The Raybestos pads went on easily and fit the caliper/clips perfectly for those of you thinking about new pads. They also seem to have a little better stopping force than the OEM pads, but I don't know how they compare when it comes to fade (haven't put the pedal to the metal on them yet).

I have a couple of questions though regarding the install. First, the pads came with brand new abutment clips (the clips that hold the pads in place) and the instructions said it was CRITICAL that I install the new ones and discard the old ones. Unfortunately the clips that came with the pads are slightly smaller than the OEM clips and wouldn't fit around the rotor. So question one is, has anyone else experienced this? Question two is, what will happen now that I've (gasp) disobeyed the directions? How long will the OEM clips be "good"?

Also, the pads came with "stickers" for the outboard pads for both front and rear. Prior to the install I sprayed on some anti-squeak goop because my mechanic said there was a high likelihood that the pads would "squeal like a pig" if I didn't also machine my rotors. Question one is, was he full of crap? Question two is, since I didn't put on the stickers and have the tacky goop there instead, will something eventually break down and should I clean the goop off and put on the stickers?

Thanks for all your help!

I have them and like them.
I've used the old clips and the new ones .
New ones fit fine and I'd say the clips are good for more than one useage if installed correctly.
I wouldn't machine the rotors unless something bad has happened ( metel to metal ) and I have never had to do that.
Goop will work fine as long as you let it " set up " a bit ( get tacky )
Stickers just a cleaner look

Thanks Showtime,

This is very helpful information! :D

Does anyone know if the rotors are different widths over the years for the C5? The guy at Pep Boys said they didn't have a ceramic pad for a 2002 C5, so I asked him to find one that would fit a 97. The pads themselves are OK but the clips definitely do not fit.

The only difference that I have found is that some of the aftermarket rotors are a fraction thinner than the GM's but for the most part the same. Regarding the clips; I do quite a bit of chrome caliper exchange and usually use the original clips unless they are bent, rusty, etc.
