Has anyone else seen this 'Charging System Fault', happened a few weeks ago, by the time the dealer got a Tech II on it they couldn't find anything, haven't seen it since, know it has to do with the 12V charging system [from the service manual] but beyond that I am in the dark...
I read a ton of threads in regards to this in the archives when I received the same notice on my DIC and it didn't appear that anyone had a definitive answer. From what I gathered as long as there wasn't any further problems it may just be a temporary "glitch". I am sure someone else will chime in with there experience.

I have a 2002 Z06 with 2500 miles. I started the car this weekend and noticed this on my DIC as well. I am going to go home and start the car again to see if it happens again. I thought the display was part of the start up process. Now I am worried.
I had this happend last week, it showed up once, and hasn't shown up again. One person said it might have been because I had my radio on and my A/C blasting. It hasn't happened since, and my car is not running hot. So who knows
I'm waiting on an alternator that will be here in the morning as we speak, the damn thing went nuts as I was leaving the house the other night fortunately I made it back to my driveway, I will let you know when I swap them out if this is the problem but I did get the same message and the amp gauge was headed for zero and not charging at all.
it happens occasionally on my c5 when i have the stereo cranked (1100 watt aftermarket system), have thge piaas on, and have the AC and headlights on. i've got a stock alternator, big cap for the stereo, and a yellow top battery. a better alternator would probably solve my problem - maybe i'll get around to installing one some day soon. :)

Re: Charging System Fault on DIC (Civil Man)
This has happened to me twice on my 02 C5 vert. Both times were in May, a year apart. I was wondering if it was somehow weather-related because of that. Anyway I've had no problems associated with my charging system and no other DIC messages related to this or anything else for that matter.
When it first happened last year I created a thread similar to this one and the concensus was then that it is rather common and as long as it is very infrequent you are OK.
Funny, this just happened to my 01 coupe. After filling up with petrol i started the car and it died twice. Then i saw the 'charging system fault' on the DIC.The car started on the third try and everything was normal ever since.I did have my stereo and a/c on while starting the car though. Hopefully its not a sign of problems to come.
Thanks for all the replies. I took it to the dealer no codes no nothing. Looks like it is just an occasional occurence, hasn't happened since I originally posted...
I've had my 99 since 98 and have seen this alarm several times in five years. It bugged me at first but if it happens I check the voltage, hit reset and go on my way. Voltage is always around 14V but when this happens who knows how low the voltage gets. I also have three aftermarket amps and a "spare battery" in the back of the car for the current those amplifiers draw on a stock alternator. Could be part of the problem :lolg:

Re: Charging System Fault on DIC (torchredvette99)
I see this every once in a while while first starting my car after it sits for over a week. I clear the message and I do not see it again until the car sits unused for over a week.
I had this "Charging Fault" pop up a few times on the DIC, so I took the car to the dealer. They found a cracked terminal on the starter and replaced the starter.
