I see you have the 5.3 L heads. I'm currently using the stock pre-'01 gaskets because of my experience with the Cometics and also because of the "notch" in my heads. Here's a post I documented the problem in.

Hey Ed when you ordered the cometics did you specify the 5.3L heads or did you order gaskets for a LS1 saying the car was a corvette? If you ordered the stock corvette LS1 gaskets, you ordered the wrong ones. If you said you had the truck that those heads come stock on would have gotten the same model? I asked for LS6 gaskets since my engine and block are both 2002 LS6 although the car is a 2001 c5. They sell over 20 different models for Chevy ls1/ls6 blocks in any thickness.

Actually, SpinMonster I ordered the Cometics from Mike Morgan of MMS at the same time I ordered the heads he was porting for me. Actually, Mike was the one who suggested and then specified those Cometics. He uses them quite a bit himself.

Note that my driver side had no problem at all from day one. The leak was very small and, had the casting been just a few thousandths larger, there would have been no problem.
