Re: Calling all 4.10 converts! Need your advice (Jumper506)
I have a 2000 a/4 with 3.15's.If I go to 4.10's what other work would need to be done?Hardened output shaft, torque tube, torque converter while its apart? Will my LS1 Edit recalibreate my speddo and tach?Looking to have more fun, less money. ;)
I have had 3.15 - 3.42 & currently 4.10's in my 98 A4 and like the 4.10's the best. You have to really decide where you end result is at with you car before making a decision however. I had raced my car every weekend previously, and that is why I went with the 4.10's after numerous torque converters with the 3.42's, and all must be designed to work on the street as it was my daily driver (83,000 miles). When you are not drag racing on a regular basis ( I did 35-50 runs per week ) I don't think I would recommend the 4.10's as much as 3.73's. If you plan on racing regularly, then expect to use excellent tires, minimum BFG Drag radials, and then go with the 4.10's and converter. If you want to save the expense of the converter (install price on this with rear is minimal) then use the 4.10's with the stock converter and you will have a great accelerating package with less...note I said "less" on the tire spin. If you did the same thing with a stall converter, say 2800 & up you will roast the tires on the street and not really win any "illegal" street encounters....keep the racing on the track !!

If you got a zo6 I would go with 3.90s. c5 4.10s. I have a zo6 i had ordered 4.10s but had a chance to drive a z with 4.10s. I thought it was just a bit too much. maybe for a quarter mile car with slicks, but too much tire spin on street tires. I changed my order and got the 3.90s which I perfer over the 4.10s. just my opinion , although alot of tuners say the 4.10s are too much for the zo6. :boxing

Wehave some amazing pricing I cant print on remanufactured 4:10's.You can get them with stock or Chrome/Moly hardened output shafts for a couple hundred more.Being the tqe. multiplication is so great we recomend the hardened shaft for durability and piece of mind specially when you wind up with intake/headers/exhaust and other mods that add good power that will be further amplified through the gears.

who did your gear swap?
Powerhouse Performance in Chicago did my carrier swap, but I bought the gears from a Forum Member- Crashed94. I don't think he builds gears anymore, but you could give him a try. He was by far the best deal around, and included an LPE hardened output shaft.

...Its funny, everytime I see a 3.90 or 4.10 post, I see the same familiar names. Hey guys....let me jump on your bandwagon.
And yes, 4.10s are the best mod I've done to the car. :iagree: I totally agree with everybody else and am extremely happy I skipped the 3.90s. You will love it.[Modified by bandit_99, 9:04 PM 7/30/2003]
Great...it'll give the rest of us a little break from answering these questions. :D
