My car got re-ring and while re-ring, they install the G5X-2 cam together with GM chain and oil pump. Today, they put everything together and start the engine. The engine start and idle OK but the oil pressure not coming up. The oil pressure just stays about 30 psi even we rev on the engine.
The tech and shop foreman say it maybe the cam. The cam maybe too small  so it lets oild going thru so the oil pressure cannot come up.
Originally he thought the new oil pump but if the oil pump valve is always opening then the car should not have any oil pressure at all.
Do y'all know what could be the issue?
Does C5 cam and Camaro cam got the same size? I just worry LG gave me the wrong cam but the cam got G5X-2 ingraved.
I will have the tech calls LG tomorrow morning.
Thanks in advance
***BTW, the tech told me the oild may not pump up since the rocker or lifter (I forgot) making noise and I really did hear alots of knock from the valve train
Thanks Louis,
I am not really understanding much of the engine so I will have the tech at dealer or shop foreman call you in the morning.
I now will call them and leave them a message.
Thanks again
Mike
***BTW, look like it's still a pain to them sine they will need to jack the whole engine off the car again :cry and I may have to wait another week :cry

Yeah, a cam being too small and letting oil flow through?? LOL... man, I seriously think they are grasping for straws here. Personally, I would find another (knowledgeable) dealer to work on the car... one that knows how to install the oil pump o-ring (as mentioned before from Louis and Patches) and one that actually knows how to accurately diagnose your problem.
Good luck, man. Sounds to me like they are going to have to go back into the motor.

They are talking about the part of the cam that sits on the bearings.
Anyway, i agree with everybody else, when they replaced the timing chain they had to pull the oil pump out. When they did this, there is an O-Ring that easily gets pinched...when this happens, it makes it hard to build oil pressure. Seen it a thousand times.

Re: LG G5X-2 cam installation issue, please help! (jmX)
The ony thing that I worry about is how long they ran it with bad pressure.
Everyone here is correct about the O ring. They need to just bite the bullet and get the mechanic to put a new O ring in, and do it properly this time.
The mechanic is on flat rate, and will have to do it for no extra money this time, that is why he would love to blam it on anything else that would allow him to get paid again for the hours.
I am sure that you will be able to get the job done without paying extra. If not, I would start with the service mgr, then go up the ladder until it gets resolved.
Have them call me at LGM if you need someone to explain it to them.

Thanks Lou, I am start worying about this as well. Yesterday, when I left, he just rev for about a minute but not really high rev. About 3000 rpm and we did hear alots of knock ...
What thing could go wrong if he revs too much? I've left there about an hr before the shop closes so I am not sure he rev it again.

Everything went fine after all ... what he said was maybe some gasket dropped down to oil pan when removing things and when he started, it edup and got stucked
He did clean up the oil pan :yesnod: and also replaced the new oil pump o-ring and we got the pressure back. At 1800 rpm, we got 55 psi. There was a Z06 in the shop and it got the same oil pressure at the same rpm :hurray:
Thanks LG and y'all have responded to my question

Mike - well, how is it ?? :) I may want to get together with you and check it out, I'm on the fence with the whole huge-cam thing. :)
I actually will pick up my car today and will come to the Corvette get together in Sargeant's in Arlington. Come and see me there
However, my car still hasn't tuned yet since I need at least 500 miles to break in those rings before pulling hard on the dyno ramps.
