Fan Control Relay Circuit #1???
I pulled this code (PCM 0480) and I thought I fixed it by replacing the relay unit in the fuse box under the hood. I cleared the code but it keeps coming back. Is there another fan control relay somewhere? Thanks for the help.
The 2003 Service manual description of the underhood fuse block, shows position #45 as the COOLFAN1 relay, position #44 as the COOLFAN3 relay, and position #43 as the COOLFAN2 relay.
As you stated, P0480 refers to the cooling fan 1 circuit.
The fault detection circuit in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sets P0480 when the voltage on the control circuit is higher or lower than the voltage the PCM expects to see.
In addition to the relay as a source of this problem the service manual indicates, a short to ground, a short to voltage, or an open circuit. Problems with the relay are an open relay coil or an internally shorted or excessively low resistance relay coil.
Potential sources of the problem are faulty connections at the PCM (damaged connectors, backed out terminals, etc), or a damaged wiring harness.
Information is also stored in the Freeze/Failure records that might help determine the DTC cause.
The ground location for the fans is G102 under the hood, forward on the passenger's side frame.

Thanks. I'll check everything. My guess is the wiring harness since it sits really low and expose to the ground, vulnerable to road debris.
