Hey folks, long time, no post. I dropped my keys the other night, on a ceramic tile floor. Ouch. Sure enough, the remote stopped working. I reprogrammed it via the instructions in the owner's manual, but it "loses" the memory after five minutes. So the thing is definitely dead.
So...any suggestions? A new GM replacement is $114  :bs  and before I spend that kind of cash, i'd like to hear what my fellow C5 fanatics have done. Is there such a thing as a universal replacement? Sold in auto parts stores? No, I don't have a second key fob - I'm the second owner, it only came with one key & fob, etc.
I appreciate any help you guys 'n gals can give. I'll check back here later.

PS - Hey! I hit 137 MPH on Loop 1604 (east) in San Antonio, Texas, last Saturday morning at about 8:30. Road was EMPTY, radar detector was ON, sun was shining, top was down...why not!!!   SSSSWWWWEEEETTT!
Are you saying that you re-calibrate it and it works for a few minutes and then no longer will open/lock the doors? If so, could it possibly be a weak battery in the FOB? Mine stopped working and I replaced the battery, reprogrammed and it works fine.
No, I wish. I replaced the battery. Forgot to mention that. Also, I replaced the actual car battery a few weeks ago, so it's not an electrical or battery issue. I've reprogrammed the fob via the ignition & DIC instructions, and via the simple "stand next to the car and press lock & unlock". Both work, but do not "hold" in the memory.
One more thing to check that I have seen happen on other remotes. When dropped the battery can sometimes bend one of the end contacts, as it will then sometime loose power and reset itself, so checking the terminals before spending any money might be worth your time. Good luck.
This is strange. Just a few days ago my key fob started doing the same thing. I just replaced the fob battery yesterday and went through the Fob Training again. However my key fob also loses it's brain about 5 minutes later.
Okay...now I'm worried. Where are Scully and Moulder when we need them? That really IS weird. Do me a favor, if you figure it out, try to drop me an email. I'm at denman4453@juno.com or dennis.kennedy@usaa.com. I'll try to drop you a note if I make any progress. Thanks!
My key fob started working again late last night. Not sure why it was acting up over the past few days. Sun spots maybe? Anyway if it stops working again I will let you know.
