I've done the zip tie mod and the car definately feels stronger, although before I did it, the boneheads had the air filter in backwards and the air bellows was only half connected to the airbridge so that could be the reason. My question is, for all the people that have done this mod, has anyone had a problem with driving in the rain? I bought some weatherstrip and installed it, but when testing it today, rain is still getting in there. I don't want to hydrolock the engine. I"m using the original air filter. Thanks
No problems with mine either.
BTW- just to give you an idea of the amount of water it would take to hydrolock an engine-When I worked as a mechanic I sometimes decarbonized an engine before tuning it by reving it to 3-4K while dumping a coke bottle of water into the intake. Black smoke and soot along with white smoke would come out of the exhaust. It would run rough for a minute or two then smooth out. I'd then continue with the tune up. Never had a problem. I can't imagine more water than that getting past the filter even in the heaviest of rain.
