Default Titanium Valve Spring Retainers

We are the leading manufacturer of titanium valve spring retainers for the japanese sportbikes. These are motors that can see upwards of 15,000 RPM.

I have been thinking about making up some spring and retainer sets forr the LS1/LS6
( just because I have one ) :yesnod:

The only automotive stuff we have done in the past is for import cars, and ZR1s, for cylinder head shops that know us from the motorcycle biz.

My question; do these motors see enough RPM to warrent titanium retainers? If so, is the stuff currently available, real cheap? I know there are some of the small block retainers that are made in China and Mexico and sold real cheap in racing puplications. I wouldn't even get involved in that. Our stuff is high end.

Is there a market for good spring and retainer sets in the vette world?

Thanks.

Jay

I think if you make it and your price is right it will sell. I would say most of the head and cam cars have titanium retainers, I haven't seen any one selling H&C’s with out them. What's the name of the company? You really have to have an edge or be cheaper than everyone else.

Check out the link in my signature.

I don't want to be the cheapest, I want to be the best. All of our retainers are completely CNC machined including the keeper taper.
The price issue is what has kept us out of the domestic automotive market in the past. That pretty much now belongs to the Chinese.

I was just wondering if the Corvette market was more high end.

I notice you are local. There are several local tuners/ shops that do engine work on C5s. Mike at MMS in Reseda, Andy at A&A in Oxnard. Joe Jill at Superior Engineering in Santa Ana did my engine. Most of us (with engine work) have spent a bit on Luniti, Manley or Comp titanium retainers. Any of these people would be a good source I would think.

I will be an azz for a second here. Ti retainers are about $100 and IMO are not needed on a mildly modified LS1, and when you get into major mods, the Ti retainers that are out there (Comp Cams comes to mind) hold up extemely well. I don't recall anyone with proper clearances dropping a valve due to retainer failure. So, if you ask me, they would have to be cheaper, because if the retainers out there are having very little to no failure what would be the point of paying more.
Since you can machine Ti, why not make some parts that could reduce weight or increase strength on the C5? How about Ti rims, that would be neat. There was some talk around here of Ti headers.
Anyway, good luck with your decision.

I too have never heard of any problems with the stock retainers. IMO the Ti retainers are really not necessary for our motors. Springs are another situation, although there are now some very durable ones for the LS1-LS6 motors on the market.

Mike :)

the biggest reason to use ti retainers is the lighter weight, and there is no shortage or high price on them now so why build them?

I just received a set of Ti retainers a few minutes ago and I am looking at the
invoice...they are Manley Std. size for $136.00. They came in a set with springs and Hardened Chromemoly pushrods and springs. This was a kit that came with a custom "spec" grind cam. Is that cheap or exspensive?
