Default Is it worth the money for solid lifter??

Do you think it's worth the extra money for solid lifters on a 427? What would be the draw backs beside money and is there any advantages to using hydraulic? What kind of lifter would use?

Major noise level would be a deffinate draw back along with regular adjustment sessions.

The only advantage to solid lifters is a higher rev limit, and this benefit would be seen only with an upgrade of all other lifter elements to complement the higher rev limit. With a 427, high revs should not be an issue. Furthermore, the current roller bearing hydraulic lifters give excellent performance, are quieter, and do not need to be adjusted.

Gotta disagree on both counts. A typical .010 lash street cam hardly makes more noise than a hydraulic. Over the noise of valves closing a little quicker from a more aggresive cam, you wouldn't hear it. As far as adjustments, with decent rockerarms you build, lash, run a while, lash then leave it for a long time. Once a year if you're paranoid (or hear noise). I've run solids on the street for 2 yrs between adjusting valves.

Main factor is cost. Cam, lifters, adjustable rockers, valve covers to clear.
Main upside is a HP gain. Don't know exact numbers, but I'd guess 10 (just from adding lash). Comes from blowing the valves open faster. The factory cams I looked at could be run with solid lifters. They'd probably be worth 5 or 10. Solid cams also allow more aggressive profiles that are worth power.

The solids will deff give more power an example being some of the guys are getting 525 to 530 out of the strokers that others are getting 500 or a little less, adj once a year I agree with also, but also agree just using lifters will cause problems and not give power alone, roller setup should be cam, lifters, adj roller rockers and the valve covers, all or nothing but you should get a good 25 to 30rwhp out of the setup, I am not using solids in my stroker as it is primarily a street car but may get greedy later and switch to a solid setup.
