Well 11:30pm and I just finished installing the Hurst Comp Shifter I purchased today. So we are up to 3 perf mods (Borla Stinger Quad Ovals, Blackwing intake, and now the Hurst) and 2 cosmetic (hood liner paint, and shift ****). Sheesh talk about mod fever...I just purchased it in April...
I started at 9pm...so 2 and a half hours (and 2 glasses of wine) later I was complete. Pretty simple even for my beginner mod status. I just took it slow and easy.
I like it so far...although couldn't take it out so I'll have to get back to you on how much better it really improves shift feel. Although sitting in the garage working through the gears I have a feeling that going into 5th is going to have me grinding reverse will I get used to the difference (hope my relearning doesn't take too long - or too many reverse gears :) ) to get used to.
Its looks cooler....a little shorter and stockier.
Anyone else install one and like or dislike its performance?
put a hurst on mine(love it) & put a mgw shift **** on at the same time ,last night I put the stock **** on & the feel changes again, changin shift ***** will change the feel of the shifter as well, dont read about people discussing this on this forum.
I find it easier to find 5th with the Hurst. I don't think it's possible to shift into or grind reverse while moving forward either (solenoid lockout ?).
You'll get used to it and love it in just a few short miles. :yesnod:
I installed the Hurst after my first track day, and have used it during two more. Fabulous feel, crisp action!. The gear is always there with exactly the same force input. I find it easiest to shift from 1-2 with my hand on the right side of the ****. Then slightly to the left of the crown for up into 3 and then down to 4. For 5 and 6, with my hand on the left third of the **** (so pushing to the right and up for 5) the move to 5 and 6 are flawless. Downshifting is the reverse. I've never hit an unintended gear.
:hurray:
Don't worry about hitting reverse. The only shift I have a problem with is 5-6 because it tends to want to go back to 4th. Otherwise, hitting the other gears is a snap and lots of fun.
I like mine much better than the B&M I put the new MGW T-Handle on mine and it made a 100% diff, kind of like having the old hurst t-Handle in the old muscle cars---
