Default Marbles in my Engine

I know it has been posted before...so here goes; Recently got h/c ,had some issues with the install but it was resolved at my new found tuner guru. Yesterday -- the marbles & squeaks started -- I'm hearing a considerable amount of valve train noise. At times it is patterned & gets louder at specific rpms. Is this a knock sensor issue? The heads have larger valves and dual valve springs and, actually, sounds great overall but from the cockpit the rattling is significant. As for squeaking, I took off the idler pully last night checked, lubed & cleaned the bearings which seemed to have worked. At current it is just the marbles driving me marbles. Thx in advanced for your replies.

Hello Peter.. I left you an e-mail but it bounced back. When you get a chance, come by the shop so we can see what the problem is. If you remember, we had to re-torque your rockers as they were loose when we checked them. I am guessing that the company that did your heads/cam did not torque them properly.

Bring it by and I am sure we will get to the bottom of this for you...

For the record knock sensors do not make noise...rather they are an "electrical" sensor that detects knock :)

Also if you here "marbles" at different RPM, what RPM are you hearing them at? If it were rockers then it would be at all RPM.....

To me it sounds like you have a bad case of detonation. This is exactly how one would describe the problem. I would definately have it checked out, because that is exactly what kills motors...its what killed mine! Who tuned it? After a H/C job, these are the problems you try and avoid at all cost. My advice to you would be to not drive it at all, until you have the prob looked at. Otherwise you could fold a ring land over;)

Ditto-
The "marbles in a tin can" sound is detonation. Are you running stock compression? Has it been hot outside? What kind of gas are you running? Sounds to me like your tuner got the A/F and Timing curves a little too aggressive for the street heat. Put some good gas in it and keep it under 2000 rpm on your way back to the shop.

-Nick

Go to your friendly tuner and let the rest of use go back to sleep, your marbles in a can are keeping us awake. :jester

Thx guys -- going tomorrow, BTW it does happening at all RPMs & gets louder relative to the amount of throttle I apply (aceleration). Regarding the temparature -- Florida pre-storm heat & humidity. Lastly, I am running 93 octane Mobil gas. I Will keep you all posted.

FWIW....anytime you do a H/C other than stock woth a higher lift and longer duration you WILL hear more valvetrain noise..That's normal!! :yesnod:

As far as detonation ..well here in florida you will get that with a H/C setup..I get it at lower rpms when in 3 and it usually goes away with the cooler weather over the fall and winter. You can try some TURBO 8 additive but that is only a quick fix and it doesn't always work.Sometimes a colder plug will help too.

A good LS1 Edit will help to take out some timing..that takes an experienced tuner with several dyno runs and road tests to get it just right..Good Luck:D
