I'm finally putting headers on my car, I ordered FLP's thru Thunder Racing and when I got them I had planned on installing the cats but now that I've opened the box and saw there are off road pipes to replace the cats and I get to choose whether I want to put the cats on or not.
I've heard that people who have left the cats off have a stronger exhaust odor, is this true? what about sound level, is it louder?
I would really appreciate any help you can give me with making this decision, but then again I guess I can always experiment and if I don't like the off road pipes I can always take them off and put the cats on.
Use your cats :yesnod:
If you want to use the off road cat replacement pipes, you also need 2 O2-sensor emulators or the PCM will set the check engine light.
I am in the same position. I am finishing up my install of new heads, cam, and headers. There is minimal visual inspection where I am, so I am thinking of ditching them. Although, I do already have some QTP cutouts. Unfortunately, they installed them after the cats. If I keep the cats, I will move the cutouts in front of them if possible. I don't know if that would require O2 sims or not, but that is no big deal. I had B&B PRT's and a 106 lsa cam that idled pretty rich. My wife thought the fumes were pretty bad, but it didn't really bother me that much.
