On my 01 vert, I found the engine 1 to 1.5 quarts low after 2700 miles. I give a range because at the last oil change, I put exactly 6.5 quarts of oil in and I don't remember if the dipstick read "max" after the change. Does this consumption rate seem high? Engine has no visable oil leaks.
I'll tell you what everybody told me, "thats not bad"
i was burning 1 qt every 3,000 miles and was told GM won't look at it unless your burning 1qt every 6-7 hundred miles :chevy
A lot of the oil consumption has to do with the PCV system. GM engineers tried to fix the problem with Z06's.
I found the following article which shows a mod to convert your LS1 over to the new LS6 style. I have not done this mod. as I have only had to add 1 quart for every 7k miles or so. Anyway, here the article: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=18
GM will say that this is "normal", but this engine should use so little oil that it can't be easily measured. 2001 was the "re-ring" year. Check out the PCV fix; it might help. :)
1 quart every 3k miles is normal. I wouldn't even blink unless you get down to the quart every 1k miles club like a lot of us. Smile be happy.....
:seeya
That's not bad at all. I was burning 1qt. every 2-3K and then went to Bowling Green then San Diego and back to Vancouver and burned a quart in the 6500 miles. Stop and start and short hauls with lots of rpm's can cause you to burn a little more but take it on a 2-500 mile trip and see for yourself.
