I know this is a :nono: but how much does it effect performance. I raced a budy, and the outcome wasn't what I expected being an LS1 F-body with less mods and having driven his car before. I forgot to turn the AC off and was wondering it this could have been part of the issue as we both got an egual start. Going to pull the plugs this week and to a full review of the car to make sure everything is A OK! :D

Once you go to full throttle the AC clutch disconnects so there should be no performance degradation.
What kind of racing? Drag or track? In a drag race the AC would cut out at WOT. But you should never use AC at the strip because you leave water on the track..
On a road course.. the AC being on would affect performance for sure.. but you would be nice and comfy..

Most roadcourse tracks want you to drive with your windows open. It makes rescue a whole lot easier.
Some fellow Vette friends and I attended the Bragg Smith Advanced Driving School, http://www.bragg-smith.com/ and they had all of us running the AC and the windows up the whole time. They told us when we roll or flip one, they don't want to see arms and legs flopping out the windows. Most motorsports I've been a part of require either the windows up or some other type of retention device like a net.
BTW, it was impressive to me how those Vettes could be driven the way they were, all day long, on the desert, with the AC on, and not one of them ever burped or missed a beat.
