I turned active handling off today, pulled out and got completely sideways and all of a sudden the car felt like it missed a beat and allowed me to straigten it out. Why did this happen if I turned the active handling off. Something else I should look for?
I'm definitely no expert, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe active handling can be off while traction control is still on. "Competitive Driving" mode is when they're both off. If that's correct, then maybe the traction control is what engaged and ended your tire spin. Just my $.02
Competitive Mode is when active handling in on and traction control is off. This allows help in controlling your car and allowing you to spin your tires at the same time.

If it fell on it's face then it's" Abuse Mode". PCM turns off 3 or 4 injectors in respnse to "Abusive " manuevers. Shifting gears at high throttle angles is one type of abusive manuever. Interestingly it doesn't occur when powershifting but does when speedshifting - must be related to throttle position changes (Delta). High throttle angle and selectind reverse is another abusive manuever....it's in the Helm's manual (PCM Section) ...I'm not making this up!
I failed to mention that the car is an A4 and only does this when im sideways. I wasnt close to the rev limiter. It seems like the car abrupty
cut power to gain control. I had control was just trying to do a cool power slide.

Maybe it was your Torque Management system? IMHO, I'd leave the Active Handling on all the time. Maybe you disengaged the TCS & the AHS was stll engaged, dunno.
It sounds like traction control kicked in. I hate that feature and turn it off everytime I start the car, but when I forget it sounds like what you explained. I don't have active handling so I do not know if there is a seperate switch or something that turn each off seperately.
I woud say your Traction Controll kicked in by powering down the motor as soon as it detected a loss of traction in one of the wheels. I have tryed the same thing in my Y2k, unless I turn both AH and TC off its hard to spin the tires !! :smash:
