Default Read axle lube question.

I was getting ready to change the gear oil in my vette when I read in the service manual, "Do not operate at wide open throttle for 300 miles after lube refilling of the differential. Scoring of ring and pionion may result. I could understand this on a new one but a drain and refill? I don't really want to baby it around for 300 miles. Any input from dealer mechanics or racers?

never heard of that. I change my fluid regularly, but never "break in" new fluid. I assume they want the additive mixed well with the gear lube, but I don't think it takes 300miles.

300mi is the recommended break-in period for a new / rebuilt rearend. That's probably what the service manual was referring to.

I talked with LPE late yesterday afternoon and they had never heard of that. Especially on drain and refill. They agreed that was good on a new unit but had never heard of it with a drain/refill. I guess I'll baby it for 150 miles after refill. :D
