Default Header wrap... any reason to do it?

Hi all, pretty new to the forum and new to vettes. I am planning on purchasing some LT headers very soon and understand that normally (in the world of V8s) there are reasons for wrapping your headers. If I recall correctly the reasons are 1) keep exhaust heat in to lower underhood temps 2) keep exhaust hot for better exhaust gas velocity. I think there may be downsides such as metal fatigue etc but being new to the world of v8's and displacement I just don't know.

Has anyone tried wrapping headers on their C5? Is it a good idea?

Thanks!

From what I have heard this is useless on the newer headers because most of them are coated inside & out & the coating has the same effect as wrapping.

What about the new LG pro(duction) LTs? I think they are stainless and uncoated...?

I would not waste my money on wraps to keep temps down. I would go to ceramic coating or nothing at all for stainless steel. Heat wraps are marginal during use coz i used them for my other cars and they have the same underhood temps as without. Well maybe a degree lower, big deal.

The bad thing is that they hold moisture and being on the headers is a no-no. If you keep your Vette out, in a cold morning they are damp. Moisture promotes corrosion, enuff said.

I wouldn't bother with header wrap, especially on mild steel headers because the moisture that gathers in the wrap can cause some heavy corosion.
