Recently I have noticed a slight pinging when I accelerate regardless of the RPM range. If I step down on the gas fairly hard it pings for about 4 or 5 pings then stops. If I go WOT, it pings a little the whole way to the rev limiter.
This just started not that long ago. Since it started, I cleaned the MAF wires with IPA, had a lot of crud on them. Any suggestions? Should I try and clean the injectors, or change plugs? I have been running the same gas, changed brands and no difference.
I don't know if it applies to other years/VINs, but there was a TSB on this for my '01. I had the PCM updated and the problem was greatly reduced. As I still have a slight amount of pinging at times (seems to be most prevalent when I've been driving normally for several minutes then nail it - after the first WOT it won't do it again unless I drive easy for several minutes, and it only does it at WOT).
There is another TSB on mine for the rear knock sensor, and my mechanic may replace that next (although, he's found that the rear knock sensor most frequently goes bad on cars which have their engines washed regularly, and my engine's never been wet).
Good luck - let us know what you find out,
Pete
PS - I'll let everyone know if I find a solution....
Might be carbon build-up. Try a can/bottle of BG44K gas additive. It may be hard to find but it works wonders - about $20.00 a bottle. It solved my problem. Do a search and see other comments.
Allgood suggestions. I would try to do the simple "decarb" first. What type of gas are you using? Could be bad/contaminated with moisture, etc. good luck. :yesnod: :)
Do you have any scan tool to verify your A/F? If the MAF is not giving correct info to the PCM it will definitely impact the A/F which could lead to the pinging. Also, do you have any idea how much timing your running? Plus, what is your custom intake?

:iagree: Decarb first to see if there is actually anything you need to fix

I don't think the issue is bad gas, I have had this ongoing for several weeks now. I cleaned the MAF first, but did not gain much improvement. I do not have access to a scan tool.
I did add a can of PI injector cleaner, and on the way home last night it stopped the pinging! I am not yet ready to declare victory, but I am thinking the injectors (or at least one) may be somewhat fouled. If this does not continue to work, I plan on doing a decarb, then maybe a dyno tune.
As far as my custom intake, it is like many others here, I have a performance hood seal and have opened up the stock cover to flow more air along with a high flow 2 stage foam (oiled) filter. (thus the MAF cleaning for oil). The only real addition is a deflector for any water leak thru from the hood just in case I should get some with the hood seal.
