Comp Cam 216/220 .525/.532 114 LSA and 01 LS6 valve springs with spring seats.
Buying this setup from a friend, and want to know if I will throw any codes with my stock programming. Or will I need programming for this cam? I know programming would get the most out of it, and I do plan on having Ed Wright program it, but could I drive it with that cam on the stock program and not throw any codes?
Only mods my 97 Vette has are blackwing, and SLP Loudmouth cat-back.
PS, how hard is a cam to install in a Vette? I heard its harder than in an LS1 f-body... Is that true? Is there any good step-by-step instructions floating around here anywhere

You will run fine with that cam. Mine ran perfect with the cam in my sig, no tuning. Tuning added 10 hp though. But it ran and idled just as well untuned.
You should not go to the work for that cam though, go at least to 2002 Z06 cam or mild aftermarket even better.
Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (ChevyChadZ28)
It should run fine with no tuning but won't be optimized. Go to the link below and use the f-body cam/spring swap how-to as a guide. It's essentially the same, but easier, on the C5. I've done a couple of heads/cam jobs on C5's and it's pretty straight-foward.
Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (Jeff Jeff)
I can pull the steering rack in 30 minutes... :D
This cam isn't that much bigger.
I have replaced cams and got a check engine light because the tolerances for the cam position sensor need to be changed in the pcm. The light resets and is very intermittent...it is a misfire code that happens on startup. I also installed a much larger cam so you may not even get that code or light. If others have done it and had no lights or codes than most likely you will be fine. However like previously mentioned your tune will not be optimized..but it may only rob you as little as 2 hp depending on what other mods you did with it. Bigger cam can use some more fuel and timing...it just depends on how much bigger the cam is vs. original.
Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (Shinobi'sZ)
Thanks for the replies guys. :)
Is this cam bigger than a Z06 cam? I was told it was...
What are the stock #'s for a Z06, and what are the stock #'s on my original 97 cam?
Will this increase my horsepower enough to feel? Will it help my ETs at all? I'm hoping for about a .2 better 1/4 mile... is that possible with this cam and no tuning?
Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (ChevyChadZ28)
Its not worth the effort for that cam, you better put something in that you can grow into with future mods. :yesnod: There will be futue mods :D
Good luck.

Your 216/220 cam has more duration and about the same lift as the 01 Z06 cam. It has more duration but less lift than the 02-03 Z06 cam.
Yes, this cam will give you a performance boost that you can feel over your stock 97 cam. But there are better choices out there, I would rather install a
cam like the Thunder 224/224 561/561 114. You will get a big performance increase with very good driveability.
Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (MC TORCH RED)
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I am going to install this cam anyways. A couple reasons: 1) I don't want to have to do programming for a few months at least, 2) I think my current mods are not sufficient enough (ie: no headers, stock heads, etc.) for too much bigger cam, 3) I already bought it, and 4) Its not like it can't be changed again ;)
In a year or 2, I will swap the cam for something more radical when I get heads, and headers to support it. For now though, I want to keep it mild and civil. It will change though in the future as money allows

He'll lock your PCM where NO other tuner can program it; then you're at his mercy.

Re: Will my computer have a problem with this cam? (ChevyChadZ28)
MTI does not lock the PCM's that Jayson tunes. we spoke about it and he doesn't think it's the right thing to do; unlike many of his competition.
281-870-8787 here in Houston. People have come a lot further than your location to have him tune their PCM's.
