The only 'real' problem with solid roller valve trains is that the rocker arm lash needs to be adjusted every 2000 to 3000 miles. Another that coul dbe considered a problem is that the valve train makes much more noise.

Typically (as mentioned), setting the lash is the biggest issue. However, this depends on how much and how hard you drive it. If you're going to track every other weekend, you will have to check it more regularly. Also, depending on the cam, the springs probably won't last as long.

I am putting a solid roller in mine right now. I am up in Round Rock. Give me a shout if you want to come check it out.

Why do you want Sold roller? Call cartek or agostino racing and they will all tell unless your going to get in to the high RPM it really isn't worth it and to spend the money on other parts. Cartek has a 427 with LS6 heads, ported LS6 intake, ported TB, cartek headers, ect. That makes 400RWTQ around 2000 RPMs. 540RWHP 520RWTQ I was also looking into it but don't really want all the problems that come with them and I would rather put the extra money to the new intake coming out.

What all goes into checking the valve lash? How hard is it to do. Reason why I would go with one is becuase the car I am looking at already has a 408 solid roller motor in it.

If you really like the car then buy it, checking the lash is nothing more than a fancy way of saying that the valves have to be adjusted. If you drive the car on the street then you'll probably have to adjust the valves 2 or 3 times a year (regular racing they should be adjusted every time you go out) and if this becomes a PITA then you can always have a different cam and lifters installed.

There is nothing to setting valve lash, and I love the sound of the louder valve train. To me it just gives out a menacing machanical sound over the exhausts that scares people!-haha And ofcourse, it will get into your powerband faster over the same size hydralic cam.

I think what has been said here is pretty accurate but i guess the car he is considering buying already has the solid roller set up and as long as the proper drivetrain components were use and GTP probably did use them then i think this sounds like a bad butt set up.

I would also just add that the solid roller will proably be a little tuffer on your valve train and may wear out some of the valve train componetns quicker but if you don't mind a little more maintenace the power levels should be worth it!

I say GO FOR IT!
