As a frequent user of this site and LS1tech, it came to my attention in a post over on LS1tech that you have made some announcements over on ls1.com about a couple of new cam profiles G5X3 and G5X4, but making more power. Since Ls1.com doesn't really seem to have the performance minded enthusiasts that some of the other sites do (specifically ls1tech), I was hoping you might share some more info about these cams with a few of us out here.
Right now, no street cam has had the success of the G5X-2 and still been a daily driver. The G5X-2 can be installed in an engine with stock heads, without doing anything other than changing the springs, push rods, and retainers.
Jamie Shouse is our highest Cam only 6 speed car with 425, (short belt) We have a 407rwhp A4 car (LS1)
Sean M in Chicago ran a 10.93 @125mph at I 41 drag strip in early summer.
At this time there is no other way to get this kind of hp and drivability unless the cam you pick is very close to the G5X-2.
We dynoed a G5X-3 yesterday, and today and have found another 10 rwhp at the top 1500 rpms on a cam and head car. We are going to put it in a Cam only car to make sure that it works, and will go in without any other work than the G5X-2.
Even with the G5X-3 coming out, I would still say that the
G5X-2 is still the champ.
Also keep in mind that LG Motorsports still has the original G5 cam with a 224/228, and a G2 cam with 224/224 and an early cam with a 221/224 duration. We can get you any grind that you want.
And just as an update, we will have a new street/strip cam (G5X-4) that will require fly cutting even on stock heads, but will be exactly what you will need for the Max performance without building a bottom end. The results will be posted very soon.
Wow, there are no secrets on the Internet. Yes in our continued efforts to improve we are testing some new cams. Two versions of the G5X-3 have been tested so far. We will post up information as development is finalized. :yesnod:
Lou mentioned testing his new G5X-3 when I dropped by 'vette off with him a couple weeks ago. Maybe I can pick his brain tomorrow and get more specifics :D

Hey GodSpeed why don't you and Lou bring those good running cars to the Fastest Street Vette in Texas shootout hosted by Xtreme Corvette club Sept.27 at Hallsville Raceway.Love to see there performance and here that heartbeat sound.
Guess it will be time to make another road trip to Dallas this winter. Uggh.. it will never end. Maybe I should just move back south. So many tuners and so much easier to get to a track.
Hopefully with the new Intake from FAST, the new AFR heads, Underdrive Pulley, Vararam, Halltech CF Airbridge, Yella terra Rockers, new G5X-?? cam and a new round of tuning from Jeremy.... anyone think 490 rwhp will possible from a stock bottom end A4 Coupe? Hmm then to really make things interesting, what about possibly adding the new Magnuson Intercooled SC setup?
Lou .. sounds like at the least I will keep you busy this winter ;-)
I need to talk to Lou about doing a G5X-S - a stealth version of G5X-2. 90% of the power, with stock idle characteristics. :yesnod:
Once I hit 400RWHP with bolt-ons I'll start coming up with a cam only plan to take me to 430RWHP without 0 idle sacrifice.
That cam already exists. Its the Thunder Racing OMC and OMC II. (OMC Old Man Cam). Cam should make around 430 and idle like a stock Z06.
Cams like this are similar to the LPE GT2-3 which is also a stealth cam. A little down on power, but really good manners. Call the Z06 cams on steroids.
The OMC made the same power as a TR230 if thats any indication.
The one thing I will say, is that I see 430 as beig a rather steep mark. The reason I say this is several cars (Z06s) with all the bolt-ons make around 390. Now, take a car with all the bolts ons, and a cam only SAXN8R, and Blu-By-U as two examples that come to mind (a C1 in Corey's case, and a X1 in Blu's case). Both are just over 400RWHP with a cam only. Now, they both have cats. So, there are probably a few ponies there. To get to 430 I would think you are going to need heads if you go with a mild cam.

 If Godspeed says his goal is 430rwhp w/bolt-ons, Pro LG/Borla LT Header system w/o cats & a LG cam, then you better believe he will meet or exceed his goal. I can remember when someone doubted my rwhp goal, too  . Why do some of you continue to say the world is flat? :lolg:
Well I want to hit 400RWHP with bolt ons first. Then I will just need a cam that picks up 30RWHP. It might take me 2-3 versions, but that's the goal! I might try the G5X-2 on a 114 first though.

:lurk: Good luck :) . I know you will reach 430rwhp w/stock heads cause you the man :smash:

I'm not saying the world is flat. Here is the point. The Z06 cam is already pretty big. It doesn't make tons of power down low, but it does alright. Most of the cams you see folks putting in raise peak HP a bit, but the curve gets fatter. Also, many of the cam only cars are right around the 400 mark as it is. I am not saying it is impossible. But, many of the cams are not much bigger than the Z06 cam, and only pick up a bit of lift.
A z06 cam with 1.85 rockers (which makes .600 lift instead of .551 on the intake side) and picks up 2 degrees of duration made 430 with headers and open cats, but with a set of Stage II heads. To get to 430 I think you will need to improve airflow a bit. To do so would require either a lumpy cam or some better flowing heads.
I am not saying its not possible, just that it will be a bit tough while retaining "stock" manners. I hope Jeremy can make 430 with bolt ons and a cam only upgrade as that will be as much power as most of the H&C+bolt-ons cars (MTI H&C cars are making 430-435 on average with an X1 cam and ported heads...).
I don't think the G5X2 or G5X3 cams can be considered a "mild" cam upgrade. However, tuning will help the streetability but Godspeed could explain it better than I.
