Default Line lock on '02 ?

Well, I thought I had this figured out and now I think I may have found a potential problem.

I read all the post about how people went about installing a line lock. I went ahead and got similar parts.

-Hurst Roll Control
- Summit Install kit
- Warhead 3/16 inverted flair to 12mm bubble flair adapters

I started looking at it closely tonight and noticed the stock line (MC1) going from the ABS block to the master cylinder is ¼’’ and not 3/16’’.

I’m not sure what to do now. Should I just go with the 3/16 line or should I try to find a 1/4’’ line with the correct adapters.

Can someone with a ’02 and a line lock help me out?

I have an 02 with a line lock, i did the install myself also.

Your right the lines you get are small compared to what was on the car. what i did was actually use 1/4" line (i dont remember the size but i take your word for it) and reduced it down with a fitting at the selinoid for the line lock.

I also had a problem finding fitting to work in the master cylinder and the abs box, so after searching up and down for it, i ended up taking a stock line cutting it and using the original fittings.

good luck and hope this helps a little.

I was hoping to be able to bend two new lines and just remove the stock one. Are the standard fittings on a ¼ line different than a 3/16 line? I'm hoping the weatherhead adapters work on the master and abs side, but I won’t know until I take it apart.

Let's say I end up cutting the stock line, how do I get the flares put on the two new ends?

I took the stock fitting and had it put on the new line, $5 labor at Earl's Performance Parts.

I'm sorry should of been more specific I Cut the stock line and used a union to connect the stock line to the new line on both ends to ensure proper seal from the original fittings, and no i couldnt not find a matching fitting anywhere, even if you do the " GM inverted bubble flare thing, not sure what its called" is very hard to dupliat and most shops or people can't do it.

What type of union? The type with the ferrell/sleeve that gets pushed down as you tighten the female nut.

Just to clarify, you guys tried the weatherhead 12mm adapters and they did now work?

Yes thats the union I used, got it from a local pipe fitting place. Most/some automotive places carry them too...

I tried all kinds of adapters, everything from import to custom shops to local stores, napa autozone, car quest, pep boys, everything, and no i couldnt not find anything in my area and i gave up.

Well, sure enough the fittings on the '02 and up cars are really screwed up. The one on the abs block is 12mm, but the one on the master is some other oddball size.

I'm going to go to a hydraulics specialty shop tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I'm hoping they can make me a new line and use the connectors off my stock line.

I hate when something this simple becomes so difficult.

Ay Caramba! :mad

This is turning out to be the biggest PITA project I've attempted.

I got a custom line made from the master to the line lock solenoid. The guy at the hydraulics shop brazed a JIC connection onto the stock line and then made me an SS line that goes to the line lock. It hass a 90* elbow coming out of the sae port and it has a JIC connection to the SS line.

So I finally get around to hooking everything up tonight and bleeding the system. As I was putting on the final touches and checking for leaks I noticed that the dam 12mm weatherhead adapter on the ABS box will not seat right. It seems to be just a little too short. I basically bent my own 3/16 line from the line lock to the abs box and used the weatherhead adapter to go from inverted flair to bubble flair.

Oh well, back to the hydraulics shop tomorrow to get the old abs side of the line rigged up.

A word of advice to '02 and up owners attempting this, use the existing connectors on the ABS and master side and get a good hydraulics/performance shop to make two lines for you that do not require flair connections into the line lock. Don't bother buying an install kit or any adapters, they won't be of any use.

I would also avoid doing a pipe union. I would not trust my brakes on something not designed for hydraulics.

Just posting the fix for someone who may search later.

The 12mm weatherhead adapter on the abs box ended up working after it was machined a bit to take some of the material off on on the top where the threads end and the bolt starts. This allowed the bottom to seat and seal properly.
