My 97 6-speed has finally hit the bottom. It had been making bad grinding noises lately when I would go into 3rd & 4th gears, and it has only got worse and worse. Well, earlier tonight, I was following a couple friends in f-bodies, and they were racing, so I was just taggin along behind them playing keep up, and I went to hit 3rd gear hard powershifting, and it didn't go all the way in, and I grinded the hell outta it. So I just went to fourth, and let off the throttle. Well, next time I go thru the gears, when I got to 3rd, it just revved up like it was in neutral. :nonod: Now I have a 5 speed with 2 neutrals. What should I do now? Rebuild this one, or would it be cheaper to try and find a used one? Should I buy a used Z06 tranny? Money is a big obstacle for me right now, so I am trying to find the cheapest way of fixing this thing ASAP. I've never worked on transmissions before, but I have worked on everything else. I think I may have to start now if I can't find something cheap... this makes me sick :U
I'm waiting for my stage IV M12 from Rodney. Outright with no core less than new one from dealer, and has been upgraded with stronger parts...ie steel 3-4 shift fork. Don't know if he does exchange if core is rebuildable. Good reputation for product and service. On occcaision, can find tremecs on E-bay. Someone had stated that they had their transmission rebuilt for around $750 + parts and labor. http://forums.corvetteforum.com./zerothread?id=639165
