Any correlation between Column Lock and the Key Pellet?
My CLB is already installed and this is a moot point but I am trying to figure out some of the circumstances that cause the C/L
This may have been discussed.. But.. I was wondering if the Key Pellet changes resistance in any way over time.. If it did slightly then would it cause a column lock issue?
The reason I ask is that my car was locked for 3 days... I beat the wheel, Unplugged fuses, the whole gammit... Nada...
On Day 4 I did the beating routine and this time I used the spare key that was in my dresser and hardly ever used if at all..
It worked like a charm.. ;)
I think I will now measure the resistance of the 2 key pellets..
Hmm They both measure exactly 6K Ohms. Maybe the contacts were dirty...?
If for some reason you popped the pellet out of your key and tried to start the car..What would happen? WOuld it start and then do the column lock thing? Or would the car just not start at all??

Then I cleaned the key with alcohol, put her in and BINGO, it unlocked.
??????????????????????

If the resistor is just dirty enough for the car to sense the wrong resistance, then the car will never start, the CL will still be locked, and you shouldn't be able to start it for about 3 minutes while the security system counts down from a perceived "theft attempt".
