I keep reading about air intakes and they seem to break down into 2 categories; "direct air" and "air over the engine".
The direct air intakes are more expensive and require more time to install and sometimes cutting.
The "air over the engine" intakes are cheaper and much easier to install but do not have the benefits of cold direct air.
So I was wondering why not use one of the "air over the engine" intakes like the dual cone one or the black wing and either remove the vent blockers next to the fog lamps or replace them with a screen. That would combine the ease of installation with direct cold air.
Your suggestion is exactly what the Z06 set up does, except for the dual cone or Blackwing filter. Also many of us have long ago removed or ventilated the solid pieces next to the fog lights to get cool air to the filters and over the engine.
Re: Question about cold air intakes (lowdowndirty)
I was afraid to cut the parts on my coupe next to the fog lights. So I went ahead and bought some Z06 screens, the only problem was the screens were part of a package. By the time it was all said and done the screens cost me about 50K, I love my new Z06!
Here in Florida we have lots of Rain so I run Twin intake with K & Ns and holes by fog lights. This compromise has worked well and the engine has not injested any water even though caught in some floods twice this past month!.
:D :seeya

Your idea is a good one, and many have done it. Some will say you will get more dust and dirt into the engine compartment, and some will say it will effect your aerodynamics. But, as stated, it is exactly the concept the Z06 uses.
