I have a 2000 C5 that suddenly decided to stop letting the FOB work. I replaced the FOB battery - no affect. I retrained the FOB using the directions in the manual. It works for 5 minutes or so, then nothing. I can hold Lock / Unlock and I get the confirmation horn. But it doesn't last. I tried my second FOB--same problem. I have run all the directions in the book and can't find another approach. Any ideas?
I am having the same problem with my keyfob. Others have mentioned it on here as well. After resetting the fob it works again until you move out of range. Once you move out of range the fob stops working again until it's reset.
I believe the fix is to order a new keyfob, but I am wondering what is going on here. It has happened a lot lately and I don't understand how we can all have the same problem pop up within a few weeks of each other. Solar wind, aliens, magnetic fields, the government.. who knows.. Something is strange here... I'll post a poll on this.
Since I have a FOB that is my "spare" and has only been used 2 or 3 times since I got my car I would be amazed if buying a new FOB would fix the problem. .....
Decided to call the local dealer where I bought my car. Service department says "the receiver is probably bad in the car". Changing the FOB or battery ETC will not correct the problem. Guess I will take it in and see what they can find. Seems strange to happen all of a sudden like that.....but who knows. I will re-post if they come up with something.... :D
This is a very common problem.....I wasted money on batteries, new fobs, and it still doesn't work.... I just deactivated it and use the old fashioned way, with the key. I have a unique, self-contained security system with uses its own remote setting method. The keyfob system has been a POS for years and hasn't been fixed. You can't permantly fix a bad design.
