Default LS1 edit for A4 gear swap

Hello to everybody,
I am about to do a gear swap for my 2000 LS1 A4 and had a couple of questions.
If I am using version 1.25 of LS1 edit is it as simple as inputting the new gear ratio?
should I be doing any shift point changes for the transmission to help compensate for any gear scaling changes.
Are there any other parameter changes required for a higher stall converter?
I am currently running 2.73's in my car, and will be changing to 3.42's with a SY3500 (heard good things about the Yank in regards to everyday driveability).
This forums expertise and experience is greatly appreciated.

Great choice ,same as mine ,get the Trans-go shift kit while your in there.
All I did was change the gear to 342 in ls1 edit
Changed some transmission stuff for firmness and the force motor and abuse test .
Never changed the low rpm shift speeds as I am happy with the way it is.
Personal preference.
You will love the change especially with the Trans-go.
No torque converter issues ,perfect
The YANK SY 3500 ROCKS FOR A STREET CAR

Hi blktie8,
I was just wondering if your vert was originally a 3.15 or a 2.73?
I heard that scaling changes wouldn't be an issue coming from a 3.15, but would be coming from a 2.73.
Your reply is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you send me your edit file, I'll make those changes for you. It's much easier for me to do the changes than trying to expalin it. You can compare the before and after files for next time.

I went from 2.73 to 3.42 and had issues with out of scale tolerances. I've heard going from 3.15 to 3.42 is OK. You don't need the shift kit because you can handle that when you program the PCM.

From what I've studied about the shift kit (Transgo), it's even suggested if you can edit the PCM. Since it changes the mechanical aspects of the transmission, I believe it's more effective. Compare it to installing larger fuel injectors vs. changing the injection time. You can get similar results, but one is more effective. The shift kit is cheap, too, and I've not heard any negatives about the Transgo kit. But, of course, he should study it himself. :steering:

I've done the trans programming and it works great. These transmissions, unlike the ol days, are electronically controlled. If I was still running my Ford with a C6 trans, it had a shift kit. Not required on todays electronically controlled transmissions and my opinion is that it is a waste of money.

Don't know if it's a waste of money. Sure hope not because I ordered one today :D Guess I'll find out.

Ok, let me rephrase that. For me, it would be a waste of money. I reprogrammed the transmission via the PCM and I'm happy with it. Shift points and firmness. I'm comparing that to another vehicle I had with a shift kit. I see no difference, but I'm not a mechanic. Just my opinion and if you're happy with yours after you install it, it won't be a waste of money for you. BTW, I read that post and I don't believe it. If you increase firmness you are also increasing the speed at which it shifts. It's like speed shifting in a 6 speed. Remember, these are electronically controlled devices.

Transgo recommends you edit Torque Management or the shift lag will be to much. DO NOT increase line pressure through programming with Transgo since Transgo already does this. VStella is the expert on this.

I saw where Transgo said 98 and newer needed to change torque mgmt. Mine's a '97. Will I be okay, or will I still need to change? Will I need LS1 Edit to make the Change?
