Default Outside Temp Sensor

Has anyone else had problems with the outside temp sensor? Mine consistently gives a false reading, usually up to 20 degrees cooler than the actual outside temp. On very rare occasions, it seems correct, but that doesn't happen often. The owner's manual says the sensor is located in the air intake under the front bumper, but I haven't been able to find it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Look behind the passenger headlight you will see the sensor. Has a push plug holding it in takes about 10 minutes to change
Good luck :seeya

It protrudes from the lower end of the radiator shroud, passenger side. Inserted from the passenger side, points to the driver's side.

If you remove a few of the trim screws around the shroud, you should be able to remove it. I don't recall where the electrical connector was, might need to get that from topside.

It usually takes a little while (i.e. a few miles of traveling) before it is supposed to register the outside temp. In my case, it always reads about 4-5 degrees above the temp that's being reported on the radio (or displayed at banks, etc.).

This thread has drawings and a lot of info on changing the sensor.
The sensor is only about $8.50 from the dealer.

You might as well replace the connector as well. Frequently the problem is that the connector has corroded. The connector splice is like $25.00. My sensor died and I replaced it but not the connector. I was back down there taking it all apart again a few days later so just do it all at once. You will need a wire crimper and I also added water resistant shrink wrap to the splices and connector.

Sounds like good advice. I'm sure once will be enough to tackle this.
Thanks

Mine said the temperature was -55 deg, then varialble. It seemed worse if the car was wet. With a low temp reading the AC won't go on. Tony's is Gaithersberg found the contact to the sensor was corroded, and I saw elsewhere this is a common problem.
