Tuning isn't cheap so it's best to make sure it's done right. You're only a couple of hundred miles from Morgan Motorsports in Reseda so take it there. Mike Morgan knows his stuff

I have asked this question myself and got very little info. There is a certain tuner that charges about $700, plus an additional $350 to get retunes. Check the supporting tuners on this forum none of them charge that much. Heck vette Dr.s is charging $300. I realize experience is a factor but I think vette dr.'s, xtreme, LGM, and 21st Century have just as much experience. Its a real shame that no tuner in SoCal can step up and offer some deals, there is a lot of money to be made if they can offer a competitive price. :mad :mad :mad

sutl-huh,

We now offer one of the best programming services at an affordable price using LS-1 edit.

We just had our 2001 Coupe completely re-programmed by our programming guy and the car runs just like stock. It feels smooth with a ton of power. This is the way the car should feel. If it feels any different, the car wasn't programmed correctly.

Our 01 coupe has heads/cam forged bottom end with an ATI D1 unit pushing 11 lbs. of boost and after the car was programmed because it HAD TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED, it ran better than we could have ever expected! JUST AWESOME!!! It is scary fast, but delivers smooth idling and awesome consistent power over the entire RPM band.

We are confident that our tuning guy is one of the best in the business!

Shawn

Shawn,
I bet it wouldn't be too hard to get a SoCal GP going for an afternoon with your guy and a dyno. :) If the price was right, I'd be in.

intofx,

Well our guy takes his time to get each car perfectly tuned correctly the first time around, so we would need each car that needs tuning for about 2 days so that the car can be tested in all types of driving conditions.

At this time, we don't tune on a dyno. In the very near future, we will dyno tune, but using the most correct and appropriate dyno. We are doing the research right now so that we can offer the most dead on accurate dyno tuning available.

Dyno tuning is great, but it doesn't give you a 100% accuracy of how the car is going to react in different driving conditions on a real road because of the amount of air that is present. Dyno tuning doesn't give the car a chance to see the real road and react with the true amount of temperate air conditions or intake.

At this time, the way it is done is by first driving the car and all data is logged into the computer. Then our tuner looks at about 150 tables via LS-1 edit and corrects for all modifications made to the vehicle so that the car runs just like a stock C5, but with tons of power. Tuning is a true science in that every car is different in terms of mods and factory tuning especially depending on the year of the car.

I am a skeptic when it comes to tuning and I am a hard believer, but after he tuned our car, I was truly convinced that he is the best there is in Southern California and that is why we picked him up to provide for ALL of our tuning services.

It is very difficult to offer a tuning GP at this time since it takes time to tune each vehicle, but our philosophy consists of the phrase, "the car doesn't leave us unless it is perfect." We abide by this philosophy because this is how we would want our car to turn out and we want to take our time in providing the best level of service combined with the highest level of quality turnout.

BlkThunder,

It really depends on what mods you have.

Head and Cam cars are less because we will pretty much know the cam specs, duration/LSA, but Forced Induction will be a bit more since it will take tedious fine tuning to get the car perfectly in line.

We are actually working on pricing right now and we will have finalized figures by next week.

I just want to add a bit to what Shawn has so eloquently stated. It would not be practical to offer a group dyno-tune and do each individual's car justice. Mike Morgan of MMS has been tuning my car and will likely be the only tuner for my car. In this area, Mike consistently exceeds expectations. After heads/cam and a few other mods, Mike ran the car 17 times on the dyno before he felt that the motor was performing the way he thought it should.

That's SEVENTEEN pulls and in-between each pull he was at the computer working on the tables to make sure the PCM was helping my motor realize it's maximum potential for the mods I have. You just can't do that on a one-day group discount event with 20+ cars there.

Granted, not every car will require this type of attention but this is why Mike is the premier tuner in our region and why some folks trailer their cars in from clear across the country to have him tune their car. No matter who turns the wrench, you want to have a tuner like Mike Morgan working on the "brains" of your vette. :yesnod:

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on how you wind up.

Gary

gary brown,

Our 2001 C5 Coupe was tuned by our guy AFTER it was tuned by someone else who shall remain nameless because the tuning was all screwed up! It was BEYOND screwed up!! The car stalled, didn't idle safe enough to drive and was all around dangerous to drive. I mean it stalled while in motion on the streets and ON THE FREEWAY!!

Actually the funniest thing the tuner told me BEFORE I even picked up the car was he was aware that the car was stalling and he couldn't figure it out. He told me to put some miles on it and return for a re-tune. How am I supposed to drive a car that stalls at every traffic light, stop sign and freeway? How would putting miles on it get it to stop stalling and if he couldn't figure out the stalling issue to begin with, how would he figure it out while we were unsafely driving the car? These are all questions I felt were very important to bring up.

According to our programmer, the person that tuned our car previously didn't really tune much or change much of the tables and that is why the car was so out of wack! Out of 150 tables, ONLY 3 were really tuned and the rest were left alone and that is why our car was running the way it was. This was evident after the logged data was evaluated via LS-1 edit.

After getting in contact with the tuner to let him know that the car had a ton of problems, I was told that I had to wait while their shop was getting re-organized and that I would be contacted when they could schedule my car back in. Well, it NEVER happened. What did they expect me to do? Drive a stalling car?

So here we are two months later. The original tuner has yet to still get in contact with me to bring the car back in, so we paid for tuning and had a car that was INOP. What is the point of that?

I advise everyone to watch and see how AWESOME our tuning guy is. You will hear the comments and evaluations from those on the forum that will have their cars tuned by our guy in the coming weeks. Our guy is a highly educated computer engineer graduate from MIT and an engine builder so he knows every aspect of the C5 and every aspect of a car in general. He has demonstrated the way C5 computer tuning should be and I am a witness to how different a car can be with just a few hours of true experienced tuning.

Again, we feel we have the best programmer in Southern California, HANDS DOWN!!!

Nobody can really say that without having a vast experience of what other tuners in So Cal can and have done.

Today, we already have scheduled appointments from C5 owners that heard we have our own programmer. They are traveling to us from So Cal, Northern Cal and out of state once they heard about our before and after results.

Shawn

wallstAL,

I didn't want to name the tuner that couldn't tune our car, but I just wanted to post our experience. I guess some companies really don't care about customer service and follow through.
