Re: all coupes with roll bars (ICULUKN-C5)
Sam - go to rebsspecialties.com and look up my car in their owner's section. You will see pics there of my cage in different stages of installation. Note that this five-point cage is WELDED...not bolted. That is for a a very simple reason: I value my life. Whether or not any sanctioning body - e.g. NHRA- or anyone else required it, I would have had it welded anyway.
It is welded at all five points to the frame. My only regret is that I did not intall an additional removeable side-bar on the passenger side.
I have my bar mounted to the cross member that is right in back of the seats and to the frame through some holes cut in the trunk floor near the center storage compartment. An early version of the bar mounted in the car can be seen at http://www.kirkracing.com/page4.html .
This may not be the best place to mount a bar but it is one of the more accessible points. I had somebody I know at GM ask one of the C5 engineers about the cross beam. His answer was it was not intended for vertical loads only for horizontal loads. So it may keep our bars in place during a non-rollover accident but in a rollover that causes the roof halo to drop down the bar mounting points may collapse.
