Hi, I recently purchased a 2000 C5 6-speed, all stock. I would like to replace the exhaust, starting with mufflers, to get a more throaty sound when I step on it, but one that also does not make a loud noise at idle or cruising speed. I was thinking of Borla or a Z06 x-pipe back assembly, but I'm not sure which would be better. Any suggestions on other brands would be helpful as well. Thanks, Jason
Re: Need help selecting a replacement exhaust (jasonwood)
A nice not to loud sounding exhaust would be the B&B RTE 66 exhaust. Its very mellow, with a nice sound. I will be selling mine in about a week if you are interested.

Go listen to exhausts at a dyno-day or Corvette gathering, try to get rides, too. Don't make a decision based solely on what you read here.
I have Corsas and have started to loathe them. Yeah, I got quiet cruise and idle, but it's real anemic - sounds almost like driving an electric or hybrid car on the inside. I've actually gotten unsolicited negative comments about the "weird" sound of my car, too!

Thanks for the info. Any reason why are you are getting rid of the B&B RTE 66 exhaust and replacing it with stingers (I’m assuming they are borlas, but I’m too new to vettes to know for sure). Also, what kind of tips do you have on your B&B's? Thanks, Jason

Welcome and congratulations.
You might try a search on this topic. It comes up about twice a day.
From what I've heard, the Corsa's seem to have a higher pitch at WOT while the Borla's are a throatier sound. Both systems have little to no resonance.
If I had to do it again, I would deffinitely check out the Flowmaster systems. They have two tip configurations and I'm a Flowmaster diehard. Good luck.
Re: Need help selecting a replacement exhaust (jasonwood)
I upgraded to the Z06 Titanium and I love it! At idle it has a tone all its own and no resonance at cruise (65/70). At WOT though it comes alive! :seeya

Re: Need help selecting a replacement exhaust (Bandit1)
From what you describe, Borla Stingers might be louder than you want at idle and cruise. I have them. I love them. But they are very aggressive compared to stock.
Re: Need help selecting a replacement exhaust (c5grandsport)
I used to have the stingers and changed to Z06 exhausts. I loved the stingers, very aggressive and loud. They were just too loud for a daily 3 hrs commuter. My ears would ring after driving home and have lost some of my hearing (seriously) Nowadays with the Z06 exhaust, I get sad everytime I start the car since I don't have the bark the stingers made but at least I have my hearing left :D
Re: Need help selecting a replacement exhaust (boost2much)
The solution is simple....spend a few hundred more and get the quality and tone of a GHL system. Borla copied their award winning design, but their resonator is larger and quieter overall. No resonance; awesome V8 rumble and welds second to none in the industry. We have world class sports cars, so why stop short when it comes to the exhaust? The addition of an Xpipe quiets the system just enough to cruise effortlessly all day...WOT will give you the smile on your face you NEED!!! Go get 'em!!!!!!!!!!!!!
