Default Brake Bias Spring

I just installed the DRM Brake Bias Spring in my 98 C5 and I now I question why I didn't install it sooner. The rear has much better braking now and there is a lot less nose dive when hard braking. :D

It's a mod that doesn't cost much and well worth ever penny. If you have a 97-00 C5 the bias spring is something to consider. :yesnod:

Is the spring already in the 2001+ cars?

I was told by a friend that more brake bias to the rear and less to the front would be very bad in wet or icy conditions and he strongly advised me against a brake bias spring. Can anyone confirm or reject that advice based on personal experience? If this is such an effective mod, why didn't Chevy install it as OEM? (esp. given that it would be a zero cost mod for them)?

Cheers,
Ian.

The 01 and up models have electronic brake distribution that was not present in the 97-00 model years.

If you'd ever driven a car in the UK in January, you wouldn't sound so surprised! Mine is a daily driver, not a weekend warrior.

Apparently GM did feel that the brake bias distribution needed to be revised since the 01+ models got an upgrade to EBD. You can do a search on here for "bias" and you will see dozens of posts and comments about the spring.

It doesn't make less to the front, just more to the rear. Like they said GM increased it themselves, it's a good mod.

I have considered this mod too. How hard was the install? I've heard it is very tedious. Any ABS problems?

TIA

It's a GREAT mod. It's EZ to install. Bleed your system thoroughly. I'd recommend upgrading your fluid to Motul or similar. If you're running stock calipers & pistons, the OE pistons are aluminum and they transfer the HEAT to the fluid FAST. Use a higher boiling point fluid. You will really notice improved braking and a more consistently firm pedal.

I'm still running stock calipers & rotors. By upgrading w/ the bias spring, stainless lines, Hawk pads and a thorough system bleed with Motul, the improvement was excellent. It's the way the brakes should have come from the factory.

I haven't noticed any negative effects from changing the spring. Under wet or dry conditions it works great.
