I LIKE IT!!!!! It took about 1.5 hours to install, absolutely no problems thanks to the tech tips from Patches. On the test drive I did not notice any unusual sounds. I did find that my boot ring is broke in two places(probably done by the stereo installer). I will be ordering a Ken King short boot soon. If you are considering one of these, I say go for it! I even took a picture so I didn't get the ole :bs flag.
first mod I did I love it, the stock one is sloppy compared to the hurst, short ,prcise shifting compared to stock,I got the mgw gripper **** & you feeel much more in touch with the shifter compared to the stock leather ****,hurst is IMO the best because of adjustability& price.
I too have a broken boot collar. Good luck finding an un-broken one. Buying a new boot from Ken is a great idea (I have one too) but it doesn't come with a new collar. You can buy a new OEM boot and collar as an assembly from GM but that's like $50. I super glued a small strip of plastic over the broken joint and so far it's holding.
Consider doing the tennis ball mod. Cut a tennis ball in half drill a hole in the center (slight smaller then the largest portion of the lever) then slip it down over the shift lever. It will further quiet any driveline noise.
Good luck with the collar but lose that OEM boot ASAP it looks cheap compared to a Ken King short shifter boot.
Maybe you can help me. I recently installed a performance short throw, adjustable shifter and was very disappointed. It was so stiff that i wore a hole in my palm just shifting. I even cut the springs to try and reduce the stiffness. Is this the case with the Hurst? please describe the feel so that I can decide on a replacement. I really like the ball and joint feeling of the stock shifter (no springs) but hate the long throw. What is out there that will give you short throw and great smooth feel? thanks.
:withstupid: Did you try the different shift stop springs? This will change the feel. You can also try a search for modifying the stock shifter. Someone had an excellent write-up on this not that long ago.
I left in the stock springs, I don't think it is hard to shift. Is it stiffer..yes, but I would call it more precise.
Again, left in stock springs.
For the Ken King boot, go to the left of the screen to the vendors under"intereior", his company is called Vette Essentials...AWESOME products. Met him in Carlisle and he is a nice guy too.
