yesterday I replaced my stock plugs and wires on my 2001 mn6 coupe with MSD 8.5's and NGK tr55 IX's. To me there seems to be a noticeable loss of performance after the swap. engine sound also seems different. the new plugs are gapped @ .050 and i have checked the wire connections several times and they seem tight. I re-installed the aluminium pieces on the end of the new wires that were on the stock wires. The stock plugs i checked were gapped at .060. I still have the fuel rail covers removed until this is solved and it may be my imagination but there seems to be a lot of loud clicking from at least one of the fuel injectors that i dont remember hearing before. any help is always appreciated.
PROBLEM SOLVED thanks for the help
I just replaced my wires last week. After approximately 50 miles, I noticed reduced engine power and some ticking noises.
Pulled the fuel rail covers and found the 2 left rear wires were just hanging barely over the plugs. These were the 2 hardest wires to install.
After some knuckel scraping and cussing, I got them back on nice and tight.
Now I've got a quiet (except for the Stingers) 8 cylinder again.
Check your wires. BTW, I"m running the Magnecor 8.5's without the heat shields. :yesnod:
The ticking that you hear sounds like spark knock. As the others said it is either a loose wire or a damaged plug. I hope it's a loose wire. Is the engine setting any codes?
