Hey guys, what plug wires should I get? I'm gonna replace the plugs w/NGKs, but was trying to decide between MSDs, GM hi-performance, and just stock replacements. I know the MSDs are about $80, the Hi-po Gms are maybe $70, but what are the stocks rated at? What kind of a price could I get from gmpartsdirect vs. the dealer? I don't need anything fancy, but do not want any radio interference. Any opinions are appreciated
GM high performance and NGK's TR55-IX worked great for me plus you can use your stock heat shields. Bought the wires thru GMpartsdirect for $48 to my front door.
I use the Taylor Thunder Bolts 10mm bad boys and there's no radio interference. I had MSD before these andthey were good plug wires also but I would have to give the edge to the taylors.
Im going with the Taylor Spiro pro 8mm wires. Ive heard alot of good things about them and Thunder Racing has them at $42.00 for the set.
Negative:
Run what the pros run, MSD. They are the best wire on the market w/ no gimmicks (ground straps, 486 layers of silicone, etc). Heads-up, you can order the wires from autozone for $60.00. Ha Ha, no shipping and it's quicker!
It's very straight forward.
Pull off all of your wires. Tip: twist the boot while still on the plug. This will make it easier to remove the wires. You can purchase a plug boot puller from any parts store for cheap. This will help reaching and twisting the boots.
Remove your plugs either w/ a plug socket (w/ the retarded rubber hose piece in it) or a similar socket.
Gap the new plug with a feeler guage.
SNUG the new plug. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. It is up to you whether you use anti-sieze. I advise using a very small amount and be careful overtightening, as the anti-sieze will make it easier to accidentally do so.
Install your new wires, making sure you feel them snap onto both the plug and the coil. If you use MSD or a similar wire, do not reuse the factory heat sheilds. When using a Delco/Delphi wire, reinstall the sheilds on the new wires before you install them.
A little long-winded but I don't know your experience with turning wrenches.
Good luck. :yesnod:
