From time to time, my A4 doesn't want to come out of park. Its like the brake before shift lock doesn't know I am pushing the brake down. Some times I have to wiggle the crap out of it for 15 seconds or so for it to go.
Anyone have advise on how to correct this, and/or if I can bypass the brake before shift lock feature without throwing any codes? Somone once said to unplug and replug some connector, but I'm not sure which one and how that is supposed to do anything?
Not really. I was thinking about that also, but mostly in my garage, which is level. It also only does it if the car sits for a day or more. It gives me a hard time when I first pull it out, but hen generally, its ok the rest of the day. I think it has something to do with the brake before shift mechanism I want to just disable!
Re: Car won't shift from Park, HELP. (TexCorvette)
do you have brake lights?
The switch at the back of the brake pedal senses if the pedal is depressed. If it is not, you won't have brake lights AND the computer will not allow you to shift out of park.

Some systems I just wouldn't want to mess with. I think the brake before shift out of park is one of those. Hopefully it is just a switch and you'll be good as new.

What was posted here long ago wasn't very detailed, about unpluging and repluging something? :(
I will check for brake lights, but I'm sure they work. This and the steering sensor eoor are the only things getting on my nerves with this car right now.

If you take off the console the lockout solenoid and connector are available to check voltage and movement, the small key lockout cable is also there so it can be disconnected to verify correct operation.
Can I bypass the lockout without any other issues or codes? This is really becoming a PITA for me. :mad Today it took 8 minutes to get it into Reverse to leave the garage.
To answer one of the other posts, my brake lights do come on, and it does happen when the car is level.
