Default Head & Cam Packages for Beginner, Info Please!!

I am new to major mods like heads and cams. I have a 99 vette, 6spd, vararam, and slp loudmouth exhaust. I am looking to do head and cam package but don't know much about it. I was wondering who makes the best package, and how much power is expected. Would a mod like this affect driveability? If so in what way, and how much? Anyone who knows anything about head and cam packages or has one, any info is appreciated. Thanx.

Call Cartek at 908-317-4496.They have the fastest H/C packages for the C5 with excellent drivability, forum members C5PIG and BillyY2K drove there cars from NJ to a race in Florida, ran 10.99 and 11.0 and drove home, getting 29Miles per gallon. If that's not excellent drivability, what is.And don't just go by dyno numbers, they can be misleading,Cartek's numbers are backed up at the track in there ET and MPH.I personally would go with a tuner within a reasonable driving distance as the tuning of these packages is critical.

I know slp just (?) released a head/cam package that's supposed to bring an otherwise stock ls1 up to the 485hp level. There was a little blurb on it in either C&D or Motortrend, in a nutshell, 2500$, very little drivability effected 485hp... Not sure if I belive the claims, but if so... you should notice a small difference in acceleration ;-)

I have the Cartek 2X package. I am pretty happy with it. My suggestion to you is if you go with them get the LS6 heads rather than the LS1. If I had it to do over again since I am in the Atlanta area I would have gone with Lamar Walden Automotive in Doraville GA. I know you are in NC but it would be worth it. They are not as known on the net as some of the tuners but some do know of them and they are awsome. They have a ton of C5 experience. And to top that they have one of the best, if not the best tuner there is, Tom Garland (nevrenuf) here on the forum. Call them at 770-449-0315
and ask for Rob. Tell him Dave Thompson told you to call. You will also save alot of money with them.

:iagree:

Take your time and do a lot of checking around before you make up your mind. Checkout the sponsoring tuners on the Forum & high peformance shops near you.
