Default HELP...Oil Pressure Pegged

Halfway to work I noticed my oil pressure was pegged at 80 PSI! Checked the DIC and found it to be at 130. Pulled over and turned off the car and the oil pressure went down to 95 in ten seconds or less and stayed there for ~10 minutes. When I started it back up it went right to 125 at idle and up to 130 cruising.

I'm thinking/hoping this is a problem with the sensor. Things I have done recently were to get the car washed and removal of the in cabin fuse #25 to unlock the column (couldn't remember if that was the right fuse to get the column to unlock and no flames please, I ordered a CLB ~two weeks ago.) and MAF descreening.

I'm debating whether to drive it home today. I'm pretty sure any blockage that would cause the pressure to spike like this would leak down after an hour or so so it it's still @ 95 at lunch I'll pretty much assume a sensor failure.

Yours is not the first I've heard of that has had this happenen. Have it checked and replaced but I would be careful about driving it untill you verify that it is a sensor or gauge failure. You are right in assuming that the pressure would bleed down over time.

If the pressure is really that high, is the motor getting any oil or is it just being plugged up somewhere?

Anyone know off hand where the sensor is so I can double check it before I get home to check my Helms?

Turn the key on but don't start the car. If it's atill pegged on the DIC it may be the sensor. This has happened to me and many others.

Sensor is on the drivers side behind the intake. The connector to the sensor stick straight up. You will have to pull the intake off to get to the sensor and the sensor uses a big deep socket to get out.

You can see it in this picture, it's on the extreme right middle of picture (back of motor). There are to sensors, a cam position sensor in the middle that is flat plug and the oil pressure sensor where the connector sticks up. http://www.ls1howto.com/howto/ls6pcv...er_removed.jpg

Your oil sending unit is bad.... common problem... the sender is about 35 dollars... and requires that the intake be removed or atleast moved forward 6 inches.. dealer wants 150 for the install .. I did two of them myself... first one took an hour and a half the second one took 45 minutes... It is impossible to get the the sender without moving the intake
Good Luck

Under the intake manifold...That's a super idea! :skep: Thanks very much for the info guys. I turned on the ignition (not the motor) after about 4 hours and the pressure went to 98, which was higher than before so I'm pretty positive it's the sensor.
