I heard that the origonal AC Delco batteries are prone to leaking acid after awhile. Since I still have that battery sitting in my car, what other batteries out there should I be looking into getting?
Yeah, if you do a search you'll find 100 threads ref the "Optima" batteries and everything there is to know about them.
No worries....I'm guilty of not using the "search" feature as well. Anyway, yes, get an Optima red top.....I bought and installed mine just last night. $113 out the door at Sam's Wholesale club. FYI, they have 2 different models of the red top....I'm not sure but I think one has 770 CCA (cold cranking amps) and one has 800. The 800 CCA battery was only $4.00 more than the 770, so I bought that one.
:iagree: I have the Optima red top too, and have had no problems with it. Is there a Costco store near Aurora? BTW, I used to fish the Fox below the dams downtown and behind the original library. :)
Be careful when pulling out the Delco "EverLeak" battery-- many that "look fine" from the top are secretly sitting in puddles of their own leaked acid, not visible until the battery is removed. (take it from a guy who has learned the hard way -- TWICE! :mad )
Cheers,

They just put a Costco down the road, so it looks like the red top will be recent purchase. I don't know if you would want to fish the Fox anymore, unless you want to catch some three eye fish.
FYI, mine was kaput within a month of car pickup in my 03, dealer refused to replace without a code, so I bought a good one from advance, no problems even after reprogramming, so the stock sits on a shelf dead till I need a new one in one of my beaters or work trucks and then its going back to the dealer for a swap.
My battery wasn't leaking, but 100 bucks for a red top is worth the piece of mind. I have read the nightmare posts by others that weren't as lucky as me.
You guys scared me enough to go out and buy a new battery for my 98. I went with the Delco mentioned because of the 7 yr warranty.
Thought I might add what I had to do afterwards.
My clock had to be reset,
My CD changer and to have the magazine removed and reinserted to play the CDs
Both key FOBs had to be reset.
I lost all fuel use data. ( no a big deal I know)
That all I can find for now.
Also does anyone know what that foam blanket around the battery does? or its purpose?
:) :seeya
