clutch life?

However, I've read some previous posts about the same issue and have seen some members mention that the computer can electronically control the clutch engagement if it feels that the clutch is beginning to slip, or if there is any potential damage to the rest of the drivetrain. Is there any truth to this, or does the clutch just need to be replaced?

I assume your car is a 6-speed. If so, the computer has nothing to do with it. I would suggest that you first have the clutch bleed before you go for the big bucks of a new one. 56,000 miles isn't extreme milage, unless of course, you beat the hell out of it on a constant basis. The slave cylinders do become pretty funky (fluid gets dirty and contaminated) maybe a good bleeding is all it needs.
