You'll need some tuning for sure to smooth out your idle and glean as much performance out of that cam as possible. :yesnod:
Have you done an idle relearn? It's not a cure-all but it smoothed my idle out considerably after I installed my new h/c.
Automatic Transmission:
1 Turn off the ignition
2 Restore the PCM battery feed
3 Turn Off the AC controls
4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels
5 Start the engine
6 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F
7 Shift the transmission selector into the drive range
8 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
9 Turn on the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
10 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)
11 Shift the transmission selector into Park
12 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)
13 Turn off the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
14 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
15 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds
Manual Transmission:
1 Turn Off the ignition
2 Restore the PCM battery feed
3 Turn Off the AC controls
4 Set the parking brake and block the drive wheels
5 Transmission in neutral
6 Start the engine
7 Allow the engine coolant temperature to reach 176 degrees F
8 Turn on the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
9 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes (Omit for 2000-01 model)
10 Turn off the AC controls (Omit for 2000-01 model)
11 Allow the engine to idle for 5 minutes
12 Turn off the engine for 15 seconds
Also check your plug wires. If any are touching or too close to the headers you may be getting misfires. I had 1 plug wire that was too close to the header and it started to melt. This made the idle pretty bad.
Yes, dyno tune will fix the idle. Also try your stock TB, mine idled better with the stocker.
I agree...every time that Andy (21st Century MC's) does an LS1-edit, he does the idle relearn as outlined above. LS1-Edit can definitely improve that idle.
Give the computer some time to learn it. The idle really sucked for the first 100 miles or so. Now its alot better but will still stall sometimes or drop real low. Best to have it ls1 edit tuned. That's what I'm going to do.
i agree that the car needs time to learn the new mod and it will work most of the bugs out. what does all the clown faces have to do with this post... :bs is what it is.
[QUOTE]yes the ls1 edit is like majic, i have the 224 cam and mine idle's great... :yesnod: :jester :hat :troll [/QUOTE
what in the hell is that llb99?????
What you agree on mc? :iagree:  :withstupid: :lolg: :lolg:

The idle relearn will help, but so will driving the car. Tuning will take care of things immediately and squeeze all the available HP out of your setup. If you choose the "driving" method, it will take some time. At first, your idle speed will fluctuate, the car may even stall at a traffic signal or stop sign. The more you drive it though, the better it will get until the "problem" almost disappears.
We have a .224/.224 .581/.581 114 LSA cam in our coupe and have been driving it for some time now with no PCM tuning. In our case, on first start the idle would be a little erratic. If we waited about 45 seconds before we started driving, it would smooth out some and we wouldn't have any trouble. If we took off right away, the car would surge a little and throw the "misfire" trouble code. The more we drove the car, the better it got. Occasionally, it would still throw the "misfire" code.
I drilled a small hole in the TB blade (5/32) and that smoothed things out even more. No "misfire" trouble codes since.
If I had my choice, I'd have done tuning. However, no one here knows how to tune this car, nor can I find a chassis dyno to run it on. I know we are giving up some HP, but the car is waaay more fun now and running great, so I'll wait until I get somewhere to have it tuned.
