Does anybody know how I can remove the pin of the Column lock manually? I have tried everything, but nothing works. I even tried to supply power to the actuator. Does anybody know where the pin is or how I can get to it?Pictures or diagrams would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to thank all of you who have already replied to my previous threads your time is greatly appreciated.
Re: Help!Column Lock, How Do I Remove Pin Manually (BH C5)
Removing the pin wont work because the BCM reads the feedback position of the motor.Even with the pin removed,if the BCM detects the wrong position of the motor, fuel will be cut off...

Have you tried removing fuse #25 in the passenger footwell? Car off, remove fuse, wait 15 secs. That will reset the computer, if it's a software glitch.
You have to get the condition cleared before you install the bypass anyway, so if tugging the wheel while turning the key on and off doesn't work, and pulling the fuse doesn't work, you'll need to make a trip to the dealer to get it fixed before installing any of the bypass units.
Re: Help!Column Lock, How Do I Remove Pin Manually (BH C5)
I just went through this 2 days ago. The DIC showed 'service column lock'. What we ended up doing (this is a '97) was to install a relay that redirects the signal so that the message is no longer shown and the computer will think all is OK. Also replaced the column lock plate with one that has no lock holes in it. The column can no longer lock. Problem solved permanently.

If you remove the top and bottom steering wheel cover you will have access to the pin. I heard you can pull it back manually and then stick a business card in there to keep it from going back in.
Just get the JMX Bypass....I did mine 3 weeks ago.. Never looked back :D
By the way.. Try this exact routine....
1. Jerk the wheel side to side for a few seconds
2. Release the tilt wheel and slap the wheel up and down a few times (Hard)
3. THis is important. Stick your (SPARE ) in the ignition and see if it unlocks
Re: Help!Column Lock, How Do I Remove Pin Manually (BH C5)
If you remove the pin.. and hang on to the lever.. there is no problem, but let go of the lever and you have about 4 seconds to duck... there is an 8 foot kill zone... OH wait , that is another forum..
I think you can still buy a buypass here on the forum and do it yourself...
Re: Help!Column Lock, How Do I Remove Pin Manually (BH C5)
If you remove the pin, you must install a custom plate from what I understand.
I still get the Service Column Lock and I have a bypass installed. Figure that one out.
