Default Powerloader or Hypertech??

I recently purchased a 1999 M6 that needs to have the running hot problem corrected (fans need to come on earlier). I drive this car 2-3 days a week so a radical performance gain is not necessary. I notice engine ping under tip-in when above 205' (I saw a link somewhere about the decarboning procedure but lost it so someone help me here) so I'm a bit leary about a big timing advance boost- assuming the decarbon won't take care of the ping. Hypertech appears to have t-stat options that Powerloader does not have so I'm leaning toward Hyper. Both options tout the improved shifting of the automatic but I would like to hear from the M6 owner's about the cooling system improvements. Also is anyone else getting the pinging at 230' on tip-in??? Seems half the crowd is content with running hot but they must not be getting the detonation.... :steering:

Neither; go with LS1 Edit. I went with the PowerLoader first, and then got LS1Edit later. Save the money, and do it right the first time

I bought my wife a 2000 Automatic and the previous owner had done a Hypertech. I have since deprogrammed and then reprogrammed it. Hypertech is very easy to use and fun to play with. I haven't used the Powerloader.

Just because a lot of people are down on the customer service, the Powerloader is still a great program. I have no complaint at all! :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

Pro's & Cons...

LS1 Edit
[Pro] -You can change ANY variable in the PCM you want, whenever you want.
[Con] It costs a bit more and is a little more complicated than the others.

Hypertech
[Pro] - You can change any of the variables that it lets you change whenever you want to suit your particualr needs. Easy to use.
[Con] - You are limited as to what can be changed.

TTS Powerloader
[Pro] - You have a custom program created and loaded in a small box. You plug it in, let it download and you're done.
[Cons] -
#1 Its expensive
#2 You have to send the box back to them to have any changes made to your program.
#3 You have to pay a fee for any changes to the program.
#4 You never know if or when you will ever get you box back.
#5 You can never reach anyone at TTS for tech help.
#6 It locks your PCM so you can't use LS1 Edit on it until you get it re-flashed at the dealer. :bs
#7 Its obsolete! :hurray:

I started out with the Hypertech and switched to LS1Edit when it became available. If you're looking for a tuner "in a box" then I would go with the HP3 because you can revert to stock programming and then sell it later. Note that the box tuners will give you a fixed tune and that is all you get. For example if you just care about lowering your fan turn on temps then I would get a cheap used HP3 for your model year.

If you want to really tune your car then you need LS1Edit and at least autotap to monitor the performance of the engine. Tuning is a continuous process of doing research, making small changes and measuring the results.

You need to start learning this site. The decarb procedure is in c-5 tech tips, under the tools menu at the top of the page. :chevy
Try this:

I would go w/ the LS1 edit. I made 25 rwhp and 30 ft/lb of tourqe just from edit and they work my fans and rev limiter. I am very happy w/ what they did. It only cost me $350 bucks at Dragon race in Broomfield, Colorado. Kaley

If your not interested in the power programming aspects then I would go with a Hypertech but get a used one (make sure it's programmed back to stock) for a fraction of the price. After you do the decarb and lower your fan temps your pinging should go away. You might also consider a lower temp thermostat to go with the lower fan temps.

If you wanted a progammer that would increase your power then while LS1 edit is the best it also means you'll be in for a bit of a learning curve. You would probably be happier with a Diablo Sport Predator.
