Default Can I remove the smog pump?

I'm about to purchase a used ATI which does not have the smog pump bracket. I live in Louisiana, so I don't have to deal with CA emissions. But will this effect the computer? I'm sure it's not as simiple of a project as it was in the late 70's.

The smog pump is electric and mounts in the nose of the car down near the park lights on the left side. I can't see how it could be in the way of the ATI or it's mounting bracket. I guess it's possible that it might be in the way of the intercooler (IC) plumbing but it could easily be moved if that were the case. You might want to call Andy at A&A as he has done a bunch of these and has a single IC solution that works much better than the twin IC units.

If you just remove the smog pump, you will get codes.
