I just moved from the midwest (93 octane premium pump gas) to Phoenix where all premium is 91 octane... the car runs fine but knocks/pings at when accelerating... it never did this in Illinois... could it just be the fuel? Is there any way to address this?
Re: Engine knock/ping - just moved to AZ (DSchaefe)
Dave,
... in short...
Your sweetheart was sipping the best Napa Merlot while back in Illinois... now she is forcing down Franzia box wine :yesnod: :jester Also, not only is the octane rating lower we run 10% ethanol... truely crappy gas.
Stop by sometime... we'll throw her up on the rollers (with air/fuel) and determine how bad the problem is... for a very nominal fee :D
Re: Engine knock/ping - just moved to AZ (AZGASSER)
The 12oz bottles of octane boost are simply not enough to make a difference. You can use Toulene or Xylene. I'd probably just tune the spark map a little different.
I moved from the midwest last fall, but my car runs fine on 91 octane because of the altitude here. I do get a little pinging driving home from Phoenix.

go there you won't be disappointed. :smash:
one time I took mine up Mt. Lemon on a unusually hot day up ther and I pinged like a ****.
Re: Engine knock/ping - just moved to AZ (DSchaefe)
We have this gas in Vegas. To fix I ended-up going to a Be-Cool radiator to keep temps below 200 (115* degree days) and colder plugs. You could also use LS1 edit and rich-up fuel or cut timing.

I live in Sierra Vista and my vette runs great with the 91 octane. No pinging from day one. If your vette's computer has had time to "relearn/adjust" to the lower octane and the pinging is still there, you have a problem. The folks at Extreme can diagnose the problem and take care of it. Welcome to Arizona!
