Column Lock -- Is this still an issue with 02 models?
I had a 99 Hardtop that experienced the dreaded column lock problem at about 40K miles--WHAT A PISSER!! Hasn't Chevrolet fixed this problem yet in later models? Are A4s less likely to have a problem?
Should I just get the Bypass install and put this issue to bed?

An '02 A4 doesn't have the column lock because the eliminated it the previos year in A4's. MN6's still have 'em which is why I have the c5 Solutions bypass on my '02. :yesnod:

All 2001 and later C5's with an A4 will never have the column lock issue.
*ALL* year C5's with a 6 speed, and 97-00 A4 cars can possibly have the column lock issue, regardless of the recall work being done or not.
The best bet is to put on a bypass and not worry about it, unless you are paranoid about somebody steeling your car and needing to be able to turn the wheel (if you left the top down on a vert, somebody could just throw it in nuetral and push it away with no column lock). As with life, most things are a tradeoff.
