I understand that break-in has a lot to do with the rings seating, on a new car, but do you guys think that some of the oil consumption problems that we have with the rings has to do with breaking it in with slippery synthetic oil?
The oil might not allow the rings to seat correctly on the cylinder walls, because it's too slick. Do you think that I'm wrong with this line of thought.
I babied mine for the first 500 miles, and, knock on wood, haven't had an excessive blow by issue. Maybe I just got lucky too. I don't know, don't really care, as long as it doesn't blow smoke (except from the tires :D ). What do you guys think?
I don't think there is much to this old theory. Synthetics may be a little more "slick", but ring seating probably isn't delayed much. Just stay off of the "loud peddle" as long as you can stand it, and you will be OK. We have almost 100 C5s in our club and all of them are synthetic users. BTW, we have NO oil consumption problems..... :smash: :yesnod: :) :hurray:
