Well with the Hot and Humid weather down here in South Florida My temps were running 190's -215 degrees all the time. I just couldn't deal with it anymore :banghead: I picked up a new BE COOL radiator from Jegs. Com on sale and had Mike Norris Motorsports install it over the weekend. We dumped the Dextron , filled the new radiator with distilled water and the REDLINE Water Wetter...also went with the Hypertech 160 t-stat :yesnod: and......IT WORKED!! :hurray:
The car's coolant temps were down to 174-178 all day ..even with the A/C on in 94 degree weather at 85 mph on the drive home 220 miles!!..What a great product. Mike used the LS1 Edit to fine tune the car and turn the fans on just a little earlier. A/F is on the money and so far NO KR with the new NGK TR6 spark plugs ...a great package!
I can't tell you how happy I am with my choice. BE COOL makes a great product that does what it says it does. A solid 20 degrees cooler!!:smash: ..and not just the coolant temp. With the built in BE COOL oil cooler and my B&M Trans cooler both the oil and trans temps were down as well 15-20 degrees..I'm just a happy camper!! I love it when it all comes together.:D
We also installed the Vararam Intake with the HP filter and I will be giving that a good road test today..so far ..I like it over the VORTEX:yesnod: ..time will tell.
With a little cooler weather (70's) come November..I'll be back at the track hunting for those illusive 10's...but this cooling /intake should help.
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (2000^C5)
Very COOL Vince.
VARARAM will help knock off a few tenths.
I never made it yesterday, as I was filling up the front skinnies with air, I noticed some brake fluid on the garage floor. Looks like I have a leaky line lock solenoid. Oh well, I'll be there next Saturday
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (vstella)
Hey Vstella,
I live in Texas and I just installed a Ron Davis radiator, and oil cooler and my 408 iron block engine temps are at 170 to 180 on a 90 degree day (before they were 200 to 225 ) oil temps are at 190 to 200 with the AC on. So I know how you feel.

So I wonder .....What is the optimum operating temperature for maximum performance from the LS1-LS6. ...I believe it's 178 degrees..Anyone know for sure?
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (Operations)
my best 11.5 run was on temps of 180 so that must be the best temp
that be cool rad will definitely be my next mod. either that or A&A's modified one. i got to see 230+ temps this summer with a 160 stat and programming for early fans with the AC on

We are running very similar setups, I also was running high temps. during the summer with A/C on. My car had sucked up a plastic shopping bag that partially blocked my radiator, since removing the plastic bag my temps don't go above 190 with the A/C on. Check the front of your radiator if you have not.
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (Mitch C)
THX mitch, i checked it out already and im clear of any debris. my car is already 4 years old and could have the same antifreeze or if not could have some cheap "no frills" brand antifreeze when i had all my work done. this is exactly why i like to do all my work myself when i can. i believe that this may be my heat problem. next year i will get a better radiator in the spring since i dont have this problem now and only on really hot 90 degree days

Vince, glad the set up works great for you.Same set up that I have.Try putting a B&M tranny cooler(26k-28k GVW) in front of it and you'll like it even better. My tranny temps are in the 165* range in traffic.:D
jerry
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (XKR100)
Glad it works for you Vince. The Becool has worked very well for me also. If you don't track your car the BeCool is great. If you track I would go with a Ron Davis or buy an external oil cooler.
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (robsvette)
Congrats on the Becool! I've been running it for the last 2 years. I also just lowered the temps that the fans come on with LS1 edit . The high speed fans coming on eailier really do make a huge difference when it comes to low coolant temps!
I also use distilled water with a dash of dextron and a 2 cans of 40 Below...

That's where the trans cooler is :yesnod: I'm OK with 174-178 ..even with the A/C on ...IN TRAFFIC !!
Re: BE COOL RADIATOR / VARARAM...Does the job! (vstella)
Wise choice Vince! Upgrading the cooling system as you increase HP is a MUST in my opinion.
I have the Ron Davis Radiator/Oil Cooler in my car and couldn't be happier with the temperatures my car runs at. Even back when I had heads/cam my temperatures would slowly creep up in traffic.. Now they never go over 185, even in traffic with very hot ambient temperatures. At lapping events on a roadcourse, there is a huge difference as well. My car is also always below 190 when Im in the staging lanes at the drags as well!
